Become a member of Kindred Credit Union
Values-centred banking that empowers families, farmers, and faith communities in southwestern Ontario to give, live, and grow!
You have a better choice for banking.
Financial decisions are not values-neutral. They can impact the world in amazing, positive ways. You have a better choice for banking—a place where your money can be a force for good.
Kindred members Lisa and Kirk, parents of two young daughters, share how Kindred Credit Union helps them manage their money, stay true to their values, and live the lifestyle they’ve always dreamed of. From supporting their family and planning for the future to finding financial peace of mind, they are grateful to be part of the Kindred community.

Joining Kindred Credit Union
You can become a Kindred member by visiting one of our local branches, scheduling a meeting with us, or applying online. You’ll be asked to provide some identification, such as your Social Insurance Number, and complete some information about yourself.
Member Shares are required for new accounts. Your $25 Member Share investment will be covered using funds from your first deposit. Member Shares are a one-time investment giving you an equal voice in how the credit union is run and a share of our annual earnings. You’ll get this back if you ever leave the credit union.
Personal memberships are for individuals, either single or joint. Business memberships support farms and businesses of all kinds. Organization memberships are available for persons in the name of an organization (including congregations), whether incorporated or unincorporated associations.
Estate memberships are for Kindred members who have since deceased, or the executor of an estate who is a Kindred member and wishes to apply for financial services on behalf of a deceased person. Trust memberships give members the option to hold funds on behalf of another person.
Opening an account means becoming a member and an owner.
That’s right—this isn’t your average chequing account! Credit unions are financial cooperatives that provide the same services as banks, such as chequing accounts, mortgages, loans, and investment advice. One big difference is that credit unions are owned by our members—the people who bank with us! So, when you open an account with Kindred you become a member and an owner. As a member-owner you have an equal voice in how the credit union is run and receive a share of our annual earnings. Membership matters!
Membership means profits are shared with you!
When you open an account with Kindred, your first $25 is invested in Member Shares. This is not a fee; it’s an ownership stake in Kindred. This refundable investment belongs to you. Cooperative banking is based on the idea that profits should have a higher purpose, and they should be put back into the communities where our members live and work. In addition to great rates and better service, profits are returned to members in the form of Profit Shares. In fact, we’ve shared more than $13 million with our members over the last 10 years! The amount you receive is based on how much business you do with the credit union.
Plus, we’re local, and buying local matters.
The choice to support local businesses in Ontario is a choice to keep our dollars growing in the very communities where we live, work, and play. As these dollars are passed between local businesses and invested back into the community, their value increases.
We’re here to serve members all across Ontario. Wherever you are, most everyday banking can be done online from the comfort of your home!
Plus we have branches in Aylmer, Elmira, Kitchener, Leamington, Milverton, Mount Forest, New Hamburg, and Waterloo.
